Hey all,
Well, as far as rankings and scoring high for the Honorable Dragon cause-
I don't think I did too well, having never made it to either of the finals
for the two Morikage tourneys I went to. I did have a hell of a lot of fun
though! So, I figure it all worked out alright.
To start off with, before the tourney had even started my friends and I
began a new tourney tradition- Card burning! Each of us bought a common
card from the dime, or quarter bin at the shop, choosing a card
representing a deck type we didn't like and, well, burned it. At the two
tournaments I was in I burned a Balash, a Mirumoto Daini, and a Naga
Warlord. I would've burned a Damesh if I could have found one, but oh
well. It was kind of amusing that we were destorying L5r cards as a
display of loyalty to the game. ;)
I was playing a Dragon Dishonor deck (which was clean in every other way)
and had hopes, if not expectations of victory. In the first tourney,
though, I played against a Naga, a speed honor Crane, a Lion with a whole
bunch of (-) honor requirement weenies, and a Shadowlands Horde player.
Ouch. It hurt. And after the Naga beat me he took away my charred Balash!
He said he was rescuing the poor snake, or some such. feh. I think I ended
up going 1 and four.
The next tournament was a little better. I'd retooled my deck from being a
secondary Military force to a secondary honor runner. It was all last
minute tweaking, done on the floor of the shop a few minutes before the
game. After we finished our last minute tweaks we went out and burned a
couple of cards for luck. Since, in the last tournament several people
'rescued' our lucky cards from us, we decided to burn two this time, so
we'd have a backup just in case.
This was the tournie where I burned and mutilated the traitor Daini and
the Naga Warlord. heh. Naga burn like chicken. After flaming the two
cards, I continued to descecrate them, taping and ripping them apart until
they became a single amalgamation of the monstrocity that first abandoned
our clan, then joined in the slaughter. heh. I think I'll treasure that
card always. ;P
Anyways, this time I managed to win twice, going 2-3. At this rate, if I
had entered three more tournaments I could have had a perfect record and
advanced to the finals! Maybe they'll carry over to the next tournament,
you think? ;) I lost to another weenie filled Lion deck (geez, didn't
anyone bother to tell the Lion that they're supposed to really suck in
Jade Extended?!), my friend's Crab honor runner, with it's Taka tricks,
and a Crane honor munchie. BUT! Butbutbutbutbutbutbut! I did manage to
dishonor a Naga player to -20! wheee!
The poor guy forgot that Naga's ignored honor requirements when bringing
out personalities and ended up discarding Warlords and Shahadets left and
right! It wouldn't have mattered though, since I had quiet a few shames
and marries in hand. In fact I kept waiting fro him to bring one of
them out so I could toast the little bugger.Still, it was a way cool game
and I was totally psyched afterwards! I don't think I'd have been more
excited if I'd somehow found myself into the finals!
heh. So don't scoff at the newly formed tradition of burning cards, since
it helped me to accomplish a win over our misguided foes.
Anyway, I think a Unicorn won the first tourney and a Dragon won the
second. Togashi Amadan already gave reports on both of them. From what I
could tell of the Dragon winner, he was pretty clean except for some
poisoned weapons and a Kokujin. Anyway, if was a blast and I hope we get a
chance to do it again next year!
