Alright, time for a new thread: Dragon Military in Gold

Brothers,
Methinks we've been a touch too quiet these past few days. Time for
good 'ole Hakanin to make a broad sweeping statement and call for
discussion. :P That statement is...
"I Love Firechickens!"

In any case, for the sake of discusison, I open up a thread on Gold
Edition, now that we know it *is* indeed coming. Specifically, our own
military prowess (or lack thereof, depending on your viewpoint) in this
new format. I'm sure everyone here has access to the Kyuden Ryu
Gold-Legal list. So with that I ask if anyone has given serious thought
recently to Gold Legal Military. I know I've seen some posts on it in the
past, but not much (of anything) recently. I've heard some from outside
our clan say the think we could be a potent military force in Gold, while
others just laugh at us. What do you all think? My opinion as of right
now is with Rumored MRP's and the like, we stand a chance of being able to
keep up with the clans without either accelerate gold schemes (i.e. those
capable of fielding corrupt holdings well) or personalities who are
disgustingly efficient for their cost (such as the Phoenix have proven in
the few Quasi-gold games I've seen them play military in). It'll be quite
the trick building a deck with a reduced selection of boxable
personalities, myself, I'm thinking borrowing a person or two from out-of
clan might not be a bad idea. The whore of Gold Ed, Rohiteki, is the
first that leaps to mind. Hard to argue with a 2/2 shugenja for 4(good
GOD why is she in Gold?). OTOH, I don't think we stand to gain much by
borrowing too many out of clanners-there simply isn't a lot of good gold
legal personalities for 4G or less, which would be the whole point of
borrowing out of clan to begin with. The only others who leap to
mind are that monk (Giunko, IIRC) and Suzume Roshi, both
from SW. Quite honestly, if we're willing to pay the gold cost, not all
of our personalities are attrocious by the Gold median. OTOH, that won't
win us any tournies, I think. Not with the brutal monsters Corrupt Crab
and Corrupt Scorpion look like they'll shape up to be. Though thank god
we'll have one advantage over most clans- a good duelling ability to
neutralize some of the High Force, Low Chi crabs (<Amoro> and Kuon, when
his brother isn't in play, come to mind). Still, I wonder what we can do
for gold military? I tell you, I'm pained that we lost our Dragonfly
tattoos. I love Dragonfly tattoos. <G> Though Dragon tattoos might help
with early province kills, and Mountain Tattoos still aren't too bad.

So, with that, I'll stop rambling, and hope this sparks some more
conversation. Maybe after this we'll move on to other deck types, like
Dishonor/PK and enlightenment. <G>
