Hi all -
Just back from GenCon (long day already...catch the shuttle @ 4:45am,
fly Milwaukee-Memphis, wait an hour, fly Memphis/Tucson, wait 1/2 hour, ride
Phoenix-Tucson. Ish).
Important notes: Crab won the challenge booth main event but the Crab
player was mistakenly guided into making a deal by a certain unnamed someone
who thought they were much more adept at playing than the person actually
playing the Crab deck and certainly didn't believe she could win where he
could not. Oops. Despite the Crane having a 5th province at the start and
Chrys Festing early for a *sixth*, Char still won. Why does this matter to
us? Because in a climactic battle between Dragon and Phx Clan War players
(series tied 3-3 after Saturday), the Dragon eeked out the one point win.
Crab children will now be fostered with the Dragon (and I *think* vice versa
as well, but not sure) and the rift between the clans (based on
Hitomi/Yakamo) may start to mend.
The note below on deck building discussed the Emperor's Underhand...and
the original poster is dead on correct. It was in the *vast* majority of
the strong GenCon decks and it cost players dozens of games. I put mine in
simply to deny it to my opponent (since its Unique) and it outright won one
game for me *completely by itself*. On a similar note, I lost two games
because my opponent got their's in play first. Though this might not be the
perfect definition of a "broken" card (since SupTacts is nearly as
ubiquiotous), any card that sees play across most every deck style and has
such overwhelming potency might be pretty near unbalanced to the point of
broken.
Anyway - hope everyone who attended had fun, and hope everyone who
didn't will get to go sometime in the future. Have a nice day...as for me,
I need to reacclimate to normal life! :)
- Don
If you have it, play the emperors underhand.
The Emperor's Underhand is a good card but I do not believe it to be a
"must" card. If you have it and have the space in your deck fine. If not
don't worry about it.
