To my mind theres seem to be two ways to go.
Miltary:
Play followers and stand, stand is great and if you can play it it cant be played against you.
Play follower destruction, the best form is that of Daisuke. The problem with this is if you always want to get the first action, in an attacking deck this means youll be playing sneak, however in defense youll be lacking especially when your opponent plays sneak stand.
Honour:
Play a few followers, you dont have to play that many just make sure your one or two personalities with followers will survive a stand.
Play follower destruction, again in the form of Daisuke (3ph good) and fall on your kness (if you can get it) to cancel any sneak.

As a side note: range attack follower equate as both strategies, a range attack to take out a follower and the added bonus that if everything does go wrong and your opponent can stand at least this personality will survive.
