Phoenix Letter

My friends,

Lord Sun is shining above us, yet I feel a great darkness coming to engulf
us. I hear the Kami, the forces of nature, cry as each one of them is hurt
and struck by the actions of those who seek to defile them. Each time I
close my eyes, I see another world where each one of them asks for our help.

This is why we must remember our duty. We are Phoenix. The other clans do
not see. They do not understand the gentle tapestry beneath each stone, the
fickle spark of life within each tree. We are the guardians of magic, and
those secrets are our pride and our burden. We must protect what other clans
seek to defile because they are not aware.

I heard and sensed a great commotion in the tapestry, and each one of you
with a connection to the Earth and Void must have felt it too. as if a great
rift opened within the soul of all Rokugan. This tremor came from the West,
where I hear our cousins and guides the Five Elemental Masters were to
oversee an attack upons the Dragon refugees on our borders. I pray to the
Kami that my impressions are wrong, and yet what else to expect when people
war against each other?

We are the Phoenix. For years, we were the guardians of Peace and Harmony in
the Empire. Those who lead us decided it was time for us to go to war. As
brothers and enemies alike fall upon kin blades, I only pray for the sake of
the Empire that we never forget our ancestral duty. Only us, among all the
clans, have been truly blessed witht the sight and guardianship of
everything that is. The blood of Isawa flows in our veins, and opens our
eyes to what really is.

We must not sleep, for fear of closing them. Yet, Uiku the prophet once said
that only through fire could the Phoenix be truly reborn.
