  A Time for Them 

  Many years ago: 

  The morning was cool but sunny and the blossoms were in full bloom. Their scent would stay in there memoire for all the years to come. Sutero and Kieko look into each others eyes for a long time. 

  They exchanged farewell cups of water. 

  "Sutero, will I ever see you again?" 
  "My destiny is unknown my love." 

  Kieko held him for a moment more, then he turned, mounted his horse, and started down the road. Kieko would watch for his return every night. 

  Present Time: 

  Kieko was sitting in the autumn night. The weather was unusually warm and she stayed out in the garden a little longer then normal. She was watching the road that led into the village as was her custom all these years. 

  She was about to go inside for the night when she though she saw a small lantern dangle in the dusk. She watched intently as the figure came closer seaming to somehow look familiar...could it be? After all these years? 

  The figure was hooded and walked with a staff. It was a monk she thought. He had no other visible weapon. Her heart sank, surely this was not the Samurai she waited for. 

  She arose to greet the stranger as he stopped in front of her. 

  "Greetings traveler, have you gone far today?" 

  "I have traveled to the depths of hell and back my lady, I am not the man you knew many years ago," he said as he pulled back his hood,"but I have returned." 

  "Sutero" she shouted and hurried to his embrace. 

  Later that evening: 

  "Sutero...You shaved your head...and what about this tattoo?" 

  The end of the beginning.

  On Friday 11-30-001 at 2:30pm I will marry the love of my life Pamela. We have known each other for 15 years but circumstances have prevented us form making a life together until now.
