[dragon] Tournament Report for sword tournament at Extreme Games in Rockland, ME

My Friend Kale and I live in Bar Harbor, Maine.  As far as we know we are=
=20
the only l5r players in Bar Harbor.  In order for us to play other people=
 we=20
have to drive a couple hours.  The only two places in Maine that seem to=20
hold tournaments are in South Portland (about 3 1/2 hours away) and Rockl=
and=20
(around 2 hours away).  So about once or twice a month we hop in the card=
=20
and make the trip to play, usually for a season of or some global story l=
ine=20
tournament.

This time we where heading to Extreme Games in Rockland.  This is our fir=
st=20
time playing in Rockland.  The store is pretty new as are most of the=20
players.  Kale is running ratling out of Kyuden Hida and I'm playing Drag=
on=20
honor.

The prize for first is a pretty nice sword set.  15 bucks was the entranc=
e=20
fee,  so I figured that I would play my best today.

5 rounds of swiss to top 4..  i think there were 11 people total.

first round.

Steve Nason Crab - Sezaru?
Steve is one of the people I have played against in South Portland in fac=
t=20
beat me in the finals of the Season of the Lion.  We always have very clo=
se=20
games.
This game come down to me with 2 provinces and I'm at 30 honor..  I'm pre=
tty=20
sure he can take one province his next turn but not two.  I have 3=20
sanctified temples and I flip a Chosai and Satsu (phew)  so I make it to =
41=20
.  and I was right he can only take the one province.  (I'm glad i put th=
at=20
3rd Santified back in)

Kale (the guy i rode up with )  Crab/Nezumi -Sezaru
Kale and I have a lot of practice playing against each other and we know=20
each others decks quite well, so games are usually pretty close, some tim=
es=20
I win some times he does.     This time I did.  I don't remember much of=20
this game.  I do remeber using a touch of death on a white rat which slow=
ed=20
him down a bit.  I honor out..  most likely with one province left.

store owner (sorry i forgot his name) Shadowlands - no wind i think.
I got a really great gold start and his was a little slow..  I fisted his=
=20
festering pit which slowed him down a bunch.  he kept up pressure on my=20
provinces..  but i took out a bunch of his guy 2 with overwhelmed and som=
e=20
bad touches happened..  i didnt draw any duel's pretty much the whole tim=
e=20
but i kept him in check with the favor and other send home.

forth round

Erik Crane- Sezaru
Erik is the TO and has been playing for a long time.   he is playing Iron=
=20
fortress.  he says he just threw the deck together that afternoon.  I win=
=20
the cut and then get some gold. on his turn he gets revering the past.   =
his=20
ancestor is in his hand..  and I'm not playing one.  so.. he is at 1 and =
im=20
at 2  ..  on my turn i get more gold.  and pitch people that have too muc=
h=20
HR  .  I'm hoping for some cheiko's or shaitung's.   i get the welcome ho=
me=20
and the imperial gift..  so im fine..  but he is still struggeling .  he=20
never gets his momentum back and i deed's him one turn where he might pul=
l=20
near me in honor.

fifth round

Lisa Nason  Crane- Tsudao
Lisa is the wife of Steve, who i played first round.  She is playing Kosa=
ten=20
Shiro but has a slightly clunky gold scheme with daidoji merchents and=20
ports.   I dont remeber who won the cut.   but she dosent draw much gold =
and=20
isnt flushing very well.  she gets a crys festival. I seem to have good l=
uck=20
when other players play that event.  I fist a daidoji merchent pretty ear=
ly=20
and cripple her economy she deeds me twice but i have one for her.  and t=
hen=20
i proceed to gain around 20 honor it about 2 turns thanks to tsuge and 2=20
snowcranes and 2 or 3 arts.

I'm the only undefeated person going into the finals.

5th place was Steve Nason.  So my schedule was pretty good i guess

Kale
I go first.  get a good gold start.
he goes and gets an iron mine or something.  leaves an ik'rit in the=20
province.
second turn i get some more gold. and 2 sorrow's path (which i hope will=20
help out)
his turn he get flips two white guys.     he brings out 3 rats.  which ma=
kes=20
10 force.  yay
so im in shock at this start that kale got..  its probably the best start=
=20
ive ever seen him get.  i go and i think i get a couple people out.  i=20
manage to get to about 25 honor before he takes me out.

5-1   out..

so I tell Kale that he better win those swords  :)

Kale plays against the store owner in the finals.  he pulls out the win=20
after some weird plays on both people's part.  So I'm happy for Kale .. t=
his=20
is actually his second win in a row.  He won the season of the Dragon in=20
Portland a week before.

for 3 place they have 3 packs of BB and a flying tricycle Imperial favor =
 =20
and 4th is 3 packs of BB   . Erik is tired and dosent want to play.  He j=
ust=20
wants the Imperial Favor.. so he offer's me all the packs  if he can have=
=20
the favor..  and I'm cool with that  19 dollars worth of cards is ok by m=
e.

All in all I had fun.  Its always nice to meet new people and play L5R.

Then we drive the 2 hours home. and collapse :)
